SERVICE
A community of mercy and compassion in a culture of injustice and division through the practice of service.
Service is the practice of giving our time, energy, and attention to the needs of others. In a culture that often encourages comfort, self-protection, and individualism, service forms us in the way of Jesus, who came not to be served, but to serve.
Throughout the story of the Church, prayer and service have always belonged together. As we spend time with God in prayer, He grows our compassion for the people and places around us. And as we move towards others in love, we often encounter God already at work in ways we hadn’t expected.
Over time, these rhythms shape us to become more like Jesus - attentive to the overlooked, present with those in need, and hopeful about what God can do in our city. At KXC, we believe following Jesus means not only gathering together, but being sent out into our neighbourhoods, workplaces, and our city.
…whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10v43-45
Start: Serve someone in need in our city in a practical way
This can take many shapes: volunteering with a local organisation, showing up consistently in a place of need, helping a neighbour, mentoring someone, cooking meals, offering practical support, or using skills and resources to strengthen others.
Suggested: Regularly serve through a local mission partnership, team, or organisation, building relationships over time.
Consistency helps us move beyond occasional kindness towards others into genuine friendship and family with others. We do this most effectively together in community - resisting the drift into mere acts of charity, and instead allowing Jesus to guide us into deeper relationships.
