Make Lunch Partnership
WHAT IS MAKE LUNCH?
KXC is situated in one of the most affluent areas in London, Islington. However, the borough still faces a significant issue of child poverty. According to recent statistics, around 38% of children in Islington live in poverty, which is higher than the national average and is one of the highest rates in London. This is a significant issue within our community that we want to play our part in addressing. That’s why we run Make Lunch.
Make Lunch is a Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) initiative that seeks to tackle holiday hunger. TLG is a Christian charity that helps churches to bring hope and a future for struggling children. From school exclusion, to poverty and holiday hunger, there are children across the UK facing some of the toughest starts in life.
Holiday hunger is the experience of children who usually receive free school meals who are unable to access good healthy meals during the school holidays. TLG projects that the scale of holiday hunger is huge, with over 1.5 million children in the UK receiving Free School Meals and millions more children living in poverty
PURPOSE
As well as meeting the gap in provision in a really practical way with food we know that this is often only part of a wider experience of isolation for many families.
By creating a regular space for families our hope for Make Lunch moves beyond just a holiday lunch club. We also want this to be a space for connection and support where individuals and families can feel held by their community.
Make Lunch will typically run during school holidays on Tuesday and Wednesdays."
